Getting a link on a directory

So this isn't for my industry, it's for another one.

There are very few quality sites in this industry & one directory requires you to put their link on your index page before they will accept your link. My client didn't want to do this, but felt they had no choice.

Is this considered a 2 way link, good or bad? Worth it or not since there isn't much selection to begin with?

Thanks

As far as people say, google pass only part of link juice if you have link exchange. Another thing to consider, good quality directories usually do not ask for reciprocal link. Check twice this donor. And mayb it's better to submit press releases somewhere. Or finde some sites where you could put guest posts. Or contact local newspapers - to give an interview.

You shouldn't accept this type of links... You only get one link, but you have to put a link in your HOMEPAGE (a very important page for visitors and SEO). The directory gets thousands of links by the submitted websites.

First of all, you need to check the metrics of the web directory, by using this useful tool provided by seomastering.com, but also the domain and page authority, mozRank and mozTrust - for that use "MozBar from Moz" addon (for Chrome, must be and extension also for Firefox).

If these metrics are quite valuable, contact the webmaster and propose to him another linking websites, by that avoiding the exchange linking and the owner fears of linking from his page.

Otherwise, you need to look from other resources (anyways, you can not rank with only one web directory link, if the competition it is so higher).
