Ugly Sites are better for Adsense ?

Someone once told me that the uglier a website the better it performs with adsense. His reasoning was that because it's messy the links from adsense merge and mix in well. It's also harder for the user to navigate hence they're more likely to click on an ad both in fustration and because the ads just seem interesting to them.

Anyone vouch for this or experienced the above ?

I would say its not true.

I know what he means - If the ads blend in with your site - they will perform really well - but messy sites put people off full stop!

I agree with this 100%....

@joe : An ad going behind a div isn't ugly, that's not working.

Sometimes really pretty sites just don't do a good job of blending the ads, where as messy sites with text all over the place can often work wonders with your CTR.... Messy rules but you don't always want a messy site, as you can lose visitors.
