History
MyCorporation.com was founded in 1997 and is a provider of incorporation and related document preparation services. Their website enables customers to complete entity formations such as Corporations or Limited Liability Companies, trademark searches and registrations, copyright registrations, DBA registrations and appointment of agents. MyCorporation does not provide legal advice. My Corporation encourages its customers to consult with legal counsel about these matters.[1]
On Nov. 21, 2005 Intuit Inc. (Nasdaq:INTU) announced it completed its acquisition of My Corporation Business Services, Inc. Doing business as MyCorporation.com, the company is a leading provider of services that enable small- and mid-sized businesses to incorporate and form limited liability companies, or LLCs, online.[1] Intuit said that the acquisition will enable it to add incorporation services to its online tax preparation and online accounting services.[2]
Background
Through its Web site, Mycorporation.com provides the documents required for a variety of business needs from establishing a corporation to searching and registering a trademark and filing a dba in all 50 states.[3] The Web site first leads a customer through the selection of the forms required for each type of transaction. Next customers submit the required information and it is transferred directly onto the forms, making them ready for filing with the appropriate agency. [4]
Even if you find useful documents, preparing them yourself may just be too time-consuming. For those who are willing to pay for a little help (but not too much), hybrid services automate part of the process and provide extra services.[5] Many people consult with lawyers and/or accountants prior to using the services of MyCorporation so that they have the information needed to make the right decision about entity formation.[6] The most common legal expenses start-ups incur are associated with the process of incorporation. In the past, this often required either navigating a bunch of state or federal forms—or hiring an attorney to do it for you. These days, the entire process can be done online in less than an hour. (before filing fees).[7] Lawyers may be able to help you decide what type of business to form and online filing services like MyCorporation can do the filing component.[7]
